Officers thought Lui Yuen-sing, 19, had swallowed the jewellery shortly after they spotted him near the scene of a lift robbery.

He was arrested and put under guard and police recovered the proceeds of the robbery nine hours later, the court heard.

Lui denied robbery and three counts of theft. Ng Man-yiu, 17, and Kan Tsz-kin, 18, also denied robbery.

The bracelet belonged to Choy Kim-suet, who on November 28 was grabbed inside the lift of her Tsing Yi flat, said prosecutor Colette Van Der Eb. Her bracelet, personal stereo, purse and credit cards were taken.

Lui, Ng and Kan were arrested about 30 minutes later and the apparent remains of a bracelet retrieved. Lui also was charged in connection with three purse snatchings.
