MR ZHOU said the work of the Preliminary Working Committee (PWC) had received 'widespread recognition and strong support' from Hong Kong people. He told a meeting of Guangdong delegates to the Chinese law-making body that this was a result of the large volume of 'constructive work' done by the PWC. He also called on 'patriotic forces' to take a more active role in participating in the territory's social and political affairs.
Mr Zhou did not mention criticism of the PWC made by some sectors in Hong Kong, nor did he touch on the dissatisfaction from some members of the pro-China camp. He said the PWC would speed up its work this year to prepare for the setting up of the Preparatory Committee. Mr Zhou added that 'patriotic forces' in Hong Kong continued to grow, while the 'anti-China force' - backed by foreign powers - was losing support.
