CELEBRATING its coming of age, Hong Kong Tatler held a glittering ball at the Conrad, to which everyone who was anyone was invited. Marking the 18th birthday bash were a series of awards to socialites. See if you agree with the choice of winners: Most suave man about town, Peter Edwards, the debonair solicitor; up-and-coming society couple, Joseph and Carol Lu; charity queens, Alice Chiu, Pansy Hui, Jacqueline Liu, Jennifer Tose; man of the 90s, Monis Beraha; most prominent society couple, Kai-Bong and Brenda Chau; most stylish woman, Bonnie Gokson; most colourful character, David Tang (yes, him again); most eligible bachelor, Andrew Yao; most promising debutante, Bernadette Chen (see her helping to run her mother's Monita beauty salons); most gracious host, Kai Yin-lo, the jewellery designer.
While there, socialite Karen Penlington, who is leaving Hong Kong for Australia, told us why she was going. 'I'm fed up because I wasn't in Tatler's list of Hong Kong's most famous 500 faces,' she joked.
