TOURISTS who forget to keep $50 for airport departure tax could soon be saved embarrassment by a new hotel payment system.

Preliminary stages of the plan have been completed by the Civil Aviation Department. It is likely that guests will be able to have the tax added to their room bills and a receipt issued to be produced at the airport.
Chief treasury accountant Louisa Yang Lo-lee said: 'We liaised with the Hotels Association and the department agreed that this would be a good idea. Sometimes tourists forget about the departure tax and get to the airport and realise they have spent all their Hong Kong dollars. We think it will be a very big help for them.'
