TO maintain our long-term economic competitiveness, Hong Kong industry needs to focus on becoming technologically fluent, rather than getting its people to work harder.
We must begin with an environment conducive to the development, adoption and commercialisation of technology. This is the impetus behind the creation of the Hong Kong Industrial Technology Centre.
We have three strategic programmes, namely the technology-based Business Incubation, Technology Transfer and R & D Support and Services.
They all provide a nuturing environment for technology companies, forge strong links with universities and developers of new technologies and help companies accelerate the time to market new products.
Our programmes have shown encouraging early results. Expert panels in our four focus areas - Multimedia and Networking, Telecommunications, Software and Systems and Microelectronics and Components - have been set up and put to work.
These panels have helped us in identifying incubatees with superior potential.
