REVELLING in the glare of the television cameras, Bronwen Morrow parred the final three holes to edge ahead after the opening round of the Honma Hong Kong Closed women's amateur championship yesterday.
The former Hong Kong international's strong finish gave her a five-over-par 76 on Fanling's New Course and a one-stroke lead in the 54-hole tournament.
While many of the 65 competitors were suffering stage-fright in front of the cameras or coming unstuck on the slow greens, Morrow was a model of consistency.
Hot in pursuit of the leader is Tomoe Masaki, who began her round with one of the day's few birdies but took a bogey-five at the 18th for a 77.
Masaki was also left to rue a double-bogey seven at the 10th.
In joint third place on 80 are Vicki Soutar and Discovery Bay's Tomiko Ibuka.
