A CONSTRUCTION worker will get $600,000 compensation after suffering a serious leg injury when a lift he was travelling in collapsed.
Choi Yung-hing, 50, damaged his right knee on a Kowloon building site and now walks with a limp, has trouble negotiating slopes, and is often in pain.
He has not worked since the accident and may eventually have his kneecap removed.
A settlement was reached yesterday in the High Court between Mr Choi and construction companies involved.
The defendants were Aoki-Leighton Joint Venture, and sub-contractors Compact Construction Engineering Company and Cheng Yuk-koon. Details of the settlement were handed to Mr Justice Cheung.
On April 3, 1987, Mr Choi and a colleague were being lowered into an eight-metre hole when the lift's chain slipped.
