Full funding for drug squad

I WISH to clarify the position regarding 'Drug squad fails to secure cash demand' (South China Morning Post, March 10).

As the Secretariat Press Office stated in its written response to your reporter's enquiry on this subject, it is not true that funds are being withheld from this project. There will be a net increase of 100 posts for the Customs and Excise Department for 1995-96, of which 17 are earmarked for the implementation of the Control of Chemicals Ordinance.

There is no doubt funds for the 17 officers are being provided, and no funding is being withheld.
