TVB is challenging the genital taboo of the Television and Entertainment Licensing Authority (TELA) by airing an actor's penis in a film tonight.
TELA said that they would watch closely how The Crying Game would be shown in order to judge whether the station breached any regulations.
The Crying Game tells the story of a compassionate IRA terrorist (Stephen Rea) who is drawn to the girlfriend (Jaye Davidson) of a kidnapped black British soldier.
Rea treats Davidson like a woman until he sees Davidson's penis in the film just as they are going to have sex.
The Oscar-winning drama made an astonishing US$65 million (HK$501.80 million) in America when it was shown in 1993.
Cecilia Tan Sui-cheng, assistant controller (programme) of TVB, confirmed yesterday that the station's self-censorship board - Internal Standard and Practice Unit - had approved showing the scene.
