Radio host quizzed on dead woman

RADIO 3 presenter Harvey Crump was questioned by police yesterday in connection with the death of a 23-year-old British woman, who he found unconscious in his bed at his Kowloon apartment.

Crump, 38, who hosts a weekday mid-morning music and chat show on RTHK, was not arrested. Police have classified the death as a 'person collapsed' and are not treating it as suspicious.

The woman, Lisa Jane O'Riordan, was rushed from his flat in Cherry Mansions, Whampoa Garden, to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in critical condition and was certified dead at 11.22 am. Police last night said Crump was not under investigation. A spokesman added the two were 'friends'.

A police spokesman said Crump told detectives at Hung Hom station yesterday afternoon he had a drink with O'Riordan at about 1.30 am and then left her and returned to his second-floor flat.

'The man said she rang him several hours later and asked if she could go to his home and stay,' the spokesman said. 'The man opened the lock on his main door and went back to sleep.

'He said he did not hear the woman come in, but awoke at 10.20 am to find her lying unconscious in the bed beside him.

'He tried to wake her but couldn't'.

The spokesman said Crump then rang the police and went to the station to make a statement in which he told detectives the woman had a boyfriend in Hong Kong, whose name was not released, and that her family lives in England.

No more details were released about Crump's statement or where he was drinking with O'Riordan.

'The body was examined and no suspicious injuries were found,' the spokesman said. 'So far no suspicious circumstances have been found.' An officer involved in the investigation said Crump's flat was 'in order' when it was inspected after O'Riordan had been taken to hospital.
