Action at new Terminal 8 berths . . . A container is unloaded from a vessel onto a truck at Terminal 8 (West) of Modern Terminals Ltd (MTL) at Stonecutters Island. Built at a cost of $3.2 billion, MTL's two berths at the terminal have a handling capacity of 900,000 TEUs per annum. The other two berths at Terminal 8 were jointly developed by Hong Kong International Terminals (HIT) and China Ocean Shipping. The designed throughput capacity of Terminal 8 is 1.8 million TEUs, which is equivalent to about 25 per cent of the total Kwai Chung container port capacity.
