THREE employers' groups have adopted guidelines advocating equal opportunity employment, giving the cause a welcome boost in the territory.
The guidelines - prepared by Dr Iain McCormick of the Hong Kong Productivity Council and sponsored by five employer bodies - have been formally adopted by three. Namely, the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Employers Federation of Hong Kong.
The Chinese Chamber of Commerce and the Chinese Manufacturers Association have yet to endorse the agenda.
It is believed to be the first set of equal opportunity guidelines adopted by Hong Kong employer groups.
Federation of Hong Kong Industries deputy chairman Henry Tang Ying-yen said the guidelines would be sent to every member.
Though they have no binding power, Mr Tang believes it is a big step forward and signifies that employers are become more socially aware.
