AN EXECUTIVE with a United States television channel has predicted that Asia will see explosive growth and change in what is offered to consumers. Kevin-John McIntyre, vice-president and general manager of Discovery Channel-Asia, told an American Chamber of Commerce lunch yesterday that rapid changes were in store for the region. He said interactive services such as video games and home shopping and niche TV services such as an entire channel devoted to the playing of Go would be offered to viewers. 'This region is not shackled by expensive and capital-intensive existing structures,' he said. It had the opportunity to build new ones from scratch and was likely to take advantage of them in novel ways.
