PAA signs $10.1b terminal deal
PROVISIONAL Airport Authority (PAA) chairman Sir Hamish Macleod signed a $10.1 billion contract yesterday with the BCJ joint venture to build the Chek Lap Kok airport passenger terminal.
The contract - the largest so far involving the mammoth airport project - was awarded at the end of January after an international tender. Sir Hamish said the award was made after a 'full and careful assessment of technical and price factors'.
He said BCJ's tender price was within the PAA's budget and had been approved by the Legislative Council's funding committee.
The BCJ group consists of five companies from Britain, China and Japan - Amec International Construction, Balfour Beatty, China State Construction Engineering Corp, Kumagai Gumi (HK) and Maeda Corp.
The contract is for the entire 1.2 kilometres long terminal including the concrete structure, steel roof, external cladding and fixed links to the aircraft passenger loading bridges.
BCJ will also install lifts, escalators, walkways and security screening.
