A GROUP of 27 driving instructors recently sacked by the Hong Kong School of Motoring (HKSM) blocked a teaching route belonging to the school yesterday in protest against their dismissal.

They drove two cars into the school at Sha Tin to obstruct one of the off-road driving lanes.
Leung Fu-wah, vice-chairman of Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions, said: 'Among the 500 instructors still being employed by the HKSM, one-fifth of them are part-time instructors. The HKSM is trying to save money from pension funds and pay rises for long-service staff.' The HKSM said the dismissals were due to a drop in customers.
