A LONG-STANDING British national record was equalled recently when Millfield Academy's boys' squash team, which included a Hong Kong boy, won the National Schools' Squash competition for the third year in succession.
Jerome Goudie of Hong Kong, 18, first learned squash at the Hong Kong Football Club and at Victoria Barracks. He played for the Hong Kong under-19 team in the World Junior Championships in 1992.
Only just behind the boy's team was the girls' team who finished as runners-up, having been in second place also last year.
In 1993, both Millfield's boys' and girls' teams were national champions. The boys' team has won the National Schools' title six times in the last nine years.
The boys defeated Oakham 4-1 in the semi-final and Ecclesbourne 5-0 in the final.
The girls defeated Chipping Norton 5-0 in the semi-final, losing narrowly 2-3 to George Watson's of Edinburgh in a close final.
