VICEROY Cup finalists Instant-Dict are facing a race against time to sign Singapore captain and Player of the Year, Fandi Ahmad.
Buoyed by their surprise 2-1 victory over Eastern in last Sunday's semi-final, Instant-Dict want to strengthen their attack for the April 16 final at the Hong Kong Stadium and Ahmad should be the answer to their prayers.
Dissatisfied with new striker Ian Blackstone, a former York City player, Instant-Dict are pinning their hopes on Ahmad, who has also played for Groningen in the Dutch League. He has also had trials with Ajax Amsterdam.
Instant-Dict are hoping to sort out Ahmad's work permit before the Viceroy Cup final where they will play either Sing Tao or South China, who clash this afternoon.
The March 31 deadline for registering foreign players has passed but clubs can still register overseas players for Cup competitions.
Instant-Dict remain tight-lipped about the move but sources said Ahmad was 90 per cent certain of being signed as Instant-Dict look for their first trophy.
