GIORDANO Holdings has lifted its in-house knitwear manufacturing capacity by more than a third with the $11.5 million purchase of a plant from Comitex Knitters and Dongguan Comitex Knitting. Executive director Jimmy Chan Kui-tim said Giordano expected the equipment to be able to produce about 437,000 dozen T-shirts for the group between March 1 and December 31. 'The transfer of the assets will increase the group's in-house knitwear manufacturing capacity in 1995 by approximately 36.4 per cent,' Mr Chan said. The purchase was made through Giordano's wholly owned Rayhill, he said. Mr Chan said Giordano no longer sourced T-shirts from Comitex and Dongguan Comitex because the plant bought by Giordano represented a substantial part of its T-shirt production capability.
