THE University of Hong Kong is to offer a new masters degree in materials science.
The course aims to cater for the needs of those who are working or intend to work in local high-technology businesses which require a sound knowledge of the properties of the materials that make up products, instead of just marketing skills.
The Master of Science in Materials Science will be conducted on a two-year, part-time basis for graduates with degrees in science.
For those who do not have science degrees, a qualifying examination will be necessary.
Emphasis will be put on promoting understanding of the properties of materials such as ceramics, composites, framework silicates and aluminosilicates.
Graduates should find work in businesses such as the electronics industry, materials testing and analysis, and materials research and development.
