PWC invites Lai to give a briefing

THE Preliminary Working Committee (PWC) has invited a second senior government official to Beijing.

The PWC's social and security sub-group has written to Security Secretary Peter Lai Hing-ling, seeking a briefing on the thorny topic of permanent residency this month.

The sub-group's Hong Kong co-convenor, Rita Fan Tsui Lai-tai, yesterday said Mr Lai had yet to respond.

'Both sides said they cannot reach an agreement on this topic. We would like to hear from the government officials what are the differences between two sides,' she said.
