LAST year's winners of the Walk Up Jardine House event repeated their feat yesterday after climbing 980 steps and 49 floors.
Wong Tin-ping (pictured), aged 44, took five minutes and 45 seconds to reach the top floor of Jardine House in Central and retain the men's title, while Pauline Yim Pui-pui, 30, took eight minutes and 52 seconds to grab glory in the woman's event.
However, Ms Yim, who broke the record last year, said she was disappointed with yesterday's result. 'I wish I could have been a few seconds faster so I could have broke the record I set last year.' Ms Yim represented the Mass Transit Railway Corp.
The Jardine Pacific organised event was the ninth to be held. It raised $220,000 for the Hong Kong Joint Council of Parents of the Mentally Handicapped.
William Chang Kwong-chi, 73, who has a 26-year-old mentally handicapped son, led off the 50 adults and children in the climb.
