THE Kowloon-Canton Railway (KCR) was urged yesterday to install more surveillance cameras on platforms following the death of a woman who was dragged by a train for 100 metres.

Lee Chan Mei-kuen, 42, was boarding a train at Fo Tan Station last month when she fell into the 25 centimetre-wide platform gap. The train started moving, dragging her for 100 metres before it halted.

Sha Tin District Board member Ho Hau-cheung, who is helping the family negotiate for compensation, said the KCR should install more closed-circuit cameras on the platforms.

'KCR said there were cameras on platforms but at that section of platform where Mrs Lee fell there was none,' said Mr Ho.

The KCR has not commented on compensation but has said it is willing to consider helping the family if they were in need.
