AUSTRALIAN household appliance manufacturer Email says its profit for the second half of the 1994-95 financial year, ended on March 31, will not exceed that for the first half of the 1993-94 financial year, as it had predicted last November. It said the full year result would still surpass the record net profit of A$87.79 million (about HK$503.7 million) earned during 1993-94. It said the revision reflected cost overruns and delays on a $35 million programme, involving transfer of its Major Appliance Group's refrigeration production to its plant at the New South Wales country town of Orange from Adelaide, and a major re-equipment programme at Orange. 'Directors remain confident that [the programme] will provide significant benefits to Email and that the start-up difficulties currently being experienced will be substantially overcome in the first half of the new trading year,' Email said. In its first half, ended on September 30, last year, the company boosted net earnings to $45.5 million from $33.5 million a year earlier. Email normally reports full year results about early June.
