A SEND-UP of Hong Kong and an amused look at city life and its absurdities is the theme of an unusual and highly entertaining dance offering this week at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Presented by choreographer Sunny Pang and the Dance Forum Taipei, the modern dance show will be performed to music by John Zorn and Igor Stravinsky. The performance comprises a series of contrasting scenes, with titles like 'The Bazaar', 'The Airport', 'The Arena' and 'The Scene of a Crime', all reflecting different aspects of life. The overall style of the show is that of comedy and farce with a mixture of dance, theatre and Chinese opera. While light-hearted on the whole, the cartoon-style show also has a serious side, offering food for thought on various aspects of modern life. Choreographer Pang is joined by long-time dance partners Norman Dung and Robert Fung, who will be the principal dancers in the show. Pang, Dung and Fung met while working with the City Contemporary Dance Company, and the three have teamed up for a number of dance presentations. The urban dance comedy will be staged at the Cultural Centre Studio Theatre from Friday to Sunday at 8 pm. Tickets at $90 and $70 are available at Urbtix outlets (half-price for students and senior citizens). For reservations, call 2734-9009, and 2734-2006 for more information.
