A MAINLAND official yesterday sought to pacify concern over the abduction of two Hong Kong fishermen by Chinese security forces.

Zheng Guoxiong, a deputy director of Xinhua (the New China News Agency) said Zhuhai authorities would give special consideration to factors such as their status as Hong Kong residents. Lai Lin and Kong Long-hoi have been held by the Public Security Bureau since their boat was seized off Sai Kung last month. They will appear in a Zhuhai court on Sunday to face smuggling charges.
