MORE than 50 pets took part in a beauty competition organised by RTHK2 recently. The contest, entitled 'Artists' Pets Competition', was aimed at arousing awareness of pets. It was also an occasion to alert the public to the dreadful consequence of abandoning pets. More than 20 artists including Winnie Lau, Yung Hung, Linda Wong, Karen Tong, Liz Kong, Lee Yuen-wah, Raymond Tso, Tai Yan-ling, Bondie Chiu, Irene Wan, Steven Ma, Chan Yick, Ian Hung and CD Voice took part in the event. The panel of adjudicators comprised Legislative Councillor Ho Ka-man, Self-Discipline Association of Dog-Owners Hong Kong representive Mui Ka-woh, social celebrity Chiu Kam-hing, actors Simon Yam and Carrie Ng, and RTHK2 deputy head Simon Ngai. Organiser Michael Leung said the contest would hopefully encourage the public to love their pets and take good care of them. He said that according to figures from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, about 5,000 dogs were put down last year.
