RICK and Inge Strompf's X-Rated shook off a determined challenge from Keith Jacobs' Bimblegumbie to maintain a slim lead in the Dunhill San Fernando Race yesterday afternoon. Dubois 43 Bimblegumbie had, at one stage, taken over the lead from X-Rated, but by late afternoon, the Strompf's had regained their advantage some 170 nautical miles from the finish with winds blowing at around 10-12 knots. Jacobs was just two nautical miles behind the 51-foot X512 X-Rated and is still in a position to prevent the Strompf's from taking back-to-back line honours. Adrian Bell's X442, Jeppesen-designed Xiphias was lying in third place, five nautical miles behind Bimblegumbie. Moonblue and Mad Max, both hot on the heels of X-Rated during the early stages of the race to San Fernando, La Union, in the Philippines, dropped back. Moonblue was 15 nautical miles adrift of the leader with Mad Max a hefty 31 adrift of X-Rated.
