ALTHOUGH she claimed to be scared as she represented her school at the first Hui Ming Cup Competition between three schools in Hui Ming Street, Kwun Tong, Connie So Yuk-huen helped lead her school to victory.
The contest between CCC Mong Man Wai College, SKH Leung Kwai Yee School and Holm Glad College was held in the school hall of CCC Mong Man Wai College.
Form Six students, Connie and Queenie Yip Kin-wah, 17, who with three schoolmates won the quiz for Holm Glad College, said although the atmosphere was intense on stage during the joint-school competition, it was a valuable opportunity to gain wider exposure and pit their wits against contestants from other schools.
Although she has ample on-stage experience, Connie said: 'The feeling of facing my schoolmates is different to that of facing students of other schools. It's more scary.' Besides, the atmosphere on stage was very tense and serious, she added. Queenie was quick to add: 'But it was worth it because I want to open myself up to new experiences.' The inter-school quiz competition was organised jointly by the three neighbouring schools.
Ho Man-kai, teacher-adviser of CCC Mong Man Wai College's student association which initiated the event, said there was little contact between the students from the three schools although there was occasional co-operation at teachers' level.
'We want to give students a chance to get together and learn from each other. Besides, representing one's own school would help promote their sense of belonging to the school, he added.
