Pupils tune up for the big exam
ENTHUSIASM is running high to put oneself to the test - as indicated in the record number of students who took the recent mock examination in preparation for the HKCEE.
About 10,000 secondary students from over 150 schools sat the exam, an annual event organised by the Hok Yau Club to prepare students for the big exam.
Mr Ng Tak-kay, director of the Hok Yau guidance centre, said the number of students taking individual subjects had increased by 10 per cent.
To accommodate the greater numbers, 13 mock exam centres were made available this year. The venues were the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, the City University of Hong Kong and 11 secondary school campuses.
'The idea behind the mock exam is to help students in their HKCEE preparations, as well as to familiarise them with the real exam situation.' Mr Ng said that over 90 per cent of this year's HKCEE students were taking the exam for the first time.
'The mock exam is very similar to the real HKCEE. It gives students a good idea of actual exam conditions,' he said.
