HONG KONG established themselves as one of the top four tennis-playing countries in Asia after reaching the semi-finals of the women's Federation Cup in Seoul, South Korea, yesterday. The squad of Willy Chan Lee, Paulette Moreno and Jacklyn Fu defeated the Philippines 2-1 in their final group match to set up a semi-final showdown with hosts South Korea. The territory had previously beaten Taiwan 2-1 before suffering a 3-0 loss to China. But they ensured second place in the group with their victory over the tough Filipinas yesterday. Hong Kong number one Chan got the territory off to a bright start when she defeated Filipina number one, the highly talented Francesca La'O 7-5, 7-6. Moreno completed the victory with a 7-5, 7-5 win over the Philippines' number two player, Mary Sue Jackerton.
