HAYES Microcomputer Products has launched Smartcom Data/Fax Pro, a complete Windows communications solution that combines data and fax capabilities in one package. Smartcom Data/Fax Pro includes integrated data and fax features as port arbitration and data/fax discrimination. The automated features of Smartcom Data/Fax Pro, including autoconfiguration and SCOPE scripting, simplify the use of communications software. Smartcom Data/Fax Pro allows the user to store received faxes and then view, edit, print, forward, or convert them to editable text. The program also includes custom cover pages, attachments, and the ability to mix text in a variety of fonts with graphics and formats. Hayes has also launched an Optima 288 V.34 PCMCIA fax/modem with EZjack as well as a 14.4-Kbps version of the same modem. Both modems come with EZjack, an internal, retractable RJ-11 connector that eliminates the need for external links. EZjack is an improved version of the popular Megahertz XJACK with superior durability and convenience. Hayes EZjack is manufactured under agreement between Hayes and Megahertz. Both PCMCIA modems have advanced features such as Hot Swap which allows users to plug in and remove the modem without rebooting the PC. Automatic Idle Mode extends the PC battery life by using 75 per cent less power than previous high-speed PCMCIA modems when the modem is not in use. In addition, the modems are equipped with Flash Memory to ensure quick and easy feature upgrades and online help in ROM. Optima 288 PCMCIA EZjack is Hayes' fastest modem for mobile computer users. Both 28.8-Kbps and 14.4-Kbps PCMCIA EZjack modems are 2.5 ounce, high-speed, internal data and fax modems that can be used in most notebook computers available in the market today that use PCMCIA Type II, Type III and Toshiba 16mm slots. The Optima 288 V.34+FAX for PCMCIA with EZjack is priced in Hong Kong at US$650. The 144+FAX for PCMCIA with EZjack costs US$283.
