REGIONAL Container Lines of Thailand has started a fixed-day weekly feeder service from Hong Kong to Yantian in southern China. The Kiti Bhum, with a 320 twenty-foot equivalent unit (teu) capacity, sails every Tuesday to Yantian, three kilometres from the border with Hong Kong. Other lines serving Yantian include Maersk Line, American President Lines, Orient Overseas Container Line, P & O, Sea-Land and COSCO-Shenzhen. Established in 1979, RCL is listed in Thailand but uses Singapore as its main operations centre. The company operates 26 feeder vessels covering ports in Asia, including some in Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam and Australia. In China, RCL has operations in Guangzhou, Xiamen, Shanghai and Qingdao. It also operates a weekly feeder service between Hong Kong and Xiamen. Last year, RCL vessels carried more than 900,000 teus, with the number expected to rise to 1.2 million teus this year.
