About 40 people made their way to the tiny cemetery to pay their respects to Sir Horace, who died peacefully at his home on Saturday, aged 92.

His nephew and niece, Michael and Rita, joined their mother, Lady Kadoorie, in welcoming those attending the traditional Jewish service before laying Sir Horace to rest alongside his older brother, Lord Lawrence Kadoorie, who died in August 1993 at the age of 94.

Sir Horace, who remained a bachelor, is best remembered for using his agricultural expertise to help retired Gurkhas and villagers in the New Territories find a better life.

'He was a magnanimous, delightful person with strong feelings for people,' said his long-time friend Sir Jack Cater.
