DRUG traffickers in Guangdong will be dealt with leniently if they give themselves up to police before a June 26 deadline, otherwise they will be punished severely, the Guangdong Government said yesterday.
In its new drive to combat drugs, the Government urged drug dealers, smugglers and addicts to come forward.
It is also encouraging people to report on drug-related crime by offering rewards to anyone who helps police crack major drug cases.
Those drug traffickers who surrender before the deadline will have their sentences reduced or be granted immunity if they report the criminal activities of others, the notice said.
Addicts will escape penalties if they register with the public security authorities before May 20 and accept rehabilitation programmes to kick the habit.
But if they relapse into using drugs again, they will be sent for re-education through labour, it said.
