Harbour patrols

A ROUND-THE-CLOCK harbour patrol and a new marine control station are to be set up in Ma Wan in June in an effort to prevent accidents.

The Marine Department announced plans to minimise the risk of collisions after inquiries concluded two recent accidents were a result of heavy marine traffic.

Existing measures included additional patrols and traffic control stations which had improved local traffic, the Secretary for Economic Services, Gordon Siu Kwing-chue, said.

A study would start this year to develop a long-term strategy to manage Hong Kong waters.
