A 24-HOUR hotline will begin operating at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University next month to help people seeking information on programmes offered there. Speaking at the university open day, President Poon Chung-kwong said the hotline would allow individual applicants and current students to obtain university information without having to make a trip to the campus. The Interactive Voice Response System is operated through a 24-hour service (tel 2333 0600) to provide potential applicants with information on applications and registration. Users only need to leave their fax number for the necessary information to be sent to them. The system will also allow current students to check individual registration arrangements and class meeting details, and they will be able to obtain forms by fax. A spokesman said plans were under way to extend the service to cover actual course registration in 1996. The university is also hosting information roadshows in shopping complexes, seven MTR stations and 27 secondary schools.
