Accused smuggler freed on bail
ONE of three men facing charges in relation to an $8.5 billion cigarette smuggling racket was yesterday released on bail conditions under which the ICAC will oversee his movements and contacts.
Yeung Kam-fai, 43, was ordered to report every significant daily contact to the commission and was restricted from travelling other than to and from work.
Magistrate Jonathan Acton-Bond delivered the conditions in Eastern Court on the fifth day of an application for bail for Yeung and his co-accused - Henfrey Tin Sau-kwong, 45, and Chong Tsoi-jun, 49.
Mr Acton-Bond instructed Yeung 'to remain at his residential address at all times that he is not working or on his way to or from his normal workplace or lunching on his work day'. This is unless there is a family medical emergency or Yeung has given notice to an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) officer.
Mr Acton-Bond turned down applications by Tin and Chong.
The Crown argued successfully for the committal hearing on the trio's charges to be adjourned for six weeks, until June 7.
The hearing had been scheduled to start yesterday.
