HONG KONG brought their gold medal tally at the Commonwealth Table Tennis Championships to six after picking up another four titles in Singapore yesterday.
Women's world number three Chai Po-wa was the toast of the Hong Kong team when she added the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles to the team gold won earlier in the week.
Chai, three-times defending champion and top seed in the singles competition, stretched her domination of the event to six years as she lifted the title with hardly any opposition.
She breezed into the final without dropping a game and only second-seeded Singaporean Jing Junhong, who prevented an all-Hong Kong final by beating Chan Tan-lui in four games, offered any resistance.
But China-born Chai proved she was in a class of her own as she stopped a late rally by Jing in carving out a 21-14, 21-12, 23-21 victory in the evening session to end a gruelling day which saw her play six matches.
Coach Chang Sau-ying was delighted with Chai's results and is keeping her fingers crossed that Chai will continue her winning ways at the World Championships starting in Tienjin, China, on Monday. Said Chang: 'I had expected the clean sweep of the women's events but Chai Po-wa really put up a tremendous effort throughout the tournament.
