I AM writing to bring attention to the deteriorating quality of movies offered by ATV World and TVB Pearl.

Having been a resident in Asia for nearly nine years, we now live in Guangdong province where we can receive TV broadcasts from Hong Kong. We enjoyed watching many programmes in the early years that were entertaining, inspiring and informative. But in the last two to three years we have noticed (along with many of our friends and colleagues) a decline in programmes that depict and embrace Judaeo-Christian values.

For instance, in the 1994 Easter season no movies were shown concerning or even alluding to the true meaning of this most sacred holiday for all Christians.

One does not have to be a Christian to appreciate what Christianity has done to affect the form of government, its just laws and guaranteed rights and basic freedoms. Any enlightened mind can look across the border and see what can happen to a society whose laws are not based on Judaeo-Christian concepts.

I wrote to TVB Pearl three times this year, hoping to persuade them to offer us something akin to the reason for the Easter season.

But come Palm Sunday, another holy day for Christians, ATV had Rising Sun and TVB had The Spy Who Loved Me. Then for Good Friday there was Predator 2 on Pearl and Rocky III on World. To add insult to injury, World disgorged Friday The 13th VII - The New Blood at 1.30 am the same night! Is it only me who is fed up with such grotesque viewing? I welcome questions, comments and criticisms, which can be addressed to Flat 707 Block Q, Kornhill, Hong Kong.
