IT'S enough to give punching people in the head a bad name.

The novelty value of the weekend-before-last's first pay-per-view boxing match in Hong Kong (Wharf Cable Cineplex channel) soon wore off as George Foreman lumbered toward his controversial decision over Axel Schulz.

Wharf Sports set a good precedent by bringing otherwise unavailable live action to our screens.

It's a pity the fight didn't live up to their hype - but watching without Nicam was a useful experience as it eliminated the often distracting filter of the so-called expert commentary.

By coincidence there seemed to be an increase in the number of martial arts both from the east and the west.

First there was Monday night's sumo show on Prime featuring the January tournament in which last season's yokozuna Takanohana fought back from two defeats to beat the only other yokozuna Akebono.
