Fung Leong-cho, 34, who pleaded guilty to common assault before Judge Caird in the District Court, said the woman was 'cocky' when she won $80,000 at cards while he lost $10,000.
The defendant admitted following the widow after her big win and beating her up because he had lost at the same gambling table.
The assault took place last August after the defendant met the victim, Yu Yin-sheung, 40, in Jai Alai de Casino in Macau.
Fung returned to Hong Kong on the same ferry as Ms Yu. The victim suffered a fractured skull in the attack and spent three days recovering in hospital.
