HONG KONG table tennis players were the big winners at the Commonwealth Championships in Singapore when they captured six of the seven titles up for grabs and also collected four bronze medals.
Women's world number three Chai Po-wa was the toast of the Hong Kong team with a four-gold haul, after she added the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles to the team gold won in the first week of the tournament.
Chai, three-time defending champion and top seed in the singles competition, stretched her domination of the event to six years as she lifted the title with hardly any opposition.
She swept the title without dropping a game, beating Singapore's Chinese emigrant Jing Junhong 21-14, 21-12, 23-21 in the final.
China-born Chai also captured her fourth straight doubles crown with long-time partner Chan Tan-lui, but it was only after a hard fight against the Singaporean team of Jing and Tan Paey Fern.
Top-seeded Chai and Chan were distracted by the vociferous Singaporean crowd rooting for their compatriots in the second set, but they pulled themselves together in the decider to win 21-18, 9-21, 21-11.
