I REFER to the article headlined, 'Imelda fights back', which appeared in the South China Morning Post, on April 27 and felt I could not let the article go without responding to it. The Filipino people gave Imelda Marcos and her family a chance. She should feel grateful that she was given that chance.
Why doesn't she and her family now retire from politics and try and get on with their lives and try to be good citizens? The more she and members of her family involve themselves in politics, the more often Filipino migrant workers are reminded why they are forced to be separated from their families and to come here and work.
Mrs Marcos probably doesn't even think about that. She probably doesn't care about these broken families that through economic necessity must live apart. Let this domestic helper offer her some advice. If you truly want to be compassionate, retire from political life.
Also, if you have any money, Mrs Marcos, give it back to the people who you took it from in the first place. Lead a quiet, humble life, away from politics.
