A MAN was jailed for three years yesterday for stabbing another man whom he claimed was a member of a triad group. Buenafe Gil, 35, a driver, admitted attacking Nestor Morales with a beef knife as he waited for a bus outside City Hall, Central, on December 19, 1993. Mr Morales underwent emergency surgery for stomach wounds and spent nine days in hospital. Gil claimed he had acted in self-defence after Mr Morales came at him with a screwdriver. He told police the victim was a member of the Utol Gang, understood to be a Filipino triad organisation. Gil claimed Mr Morales, 43 and unemployed, had attacked him before. But Judge Caird convicted him of wounding after ruling that the stabbing was in revenge for an argument previously which caused the defendant to lose face. The defendant, who had denied a charge of wounding, was arrested in Repulse Bay on January 8 last year.
