Last chance for place in title squad
EXPERIENCED triathletes Kevin Rydeard and Ryuichiro Iijima get a last chance to earn a berth in the Hong Kong squad for the Asian Championships when they race against Tony Chui Kam-tong tomorrow.
Rydeard and Iijima missed the Puma Hong Kong International Triathlon three weeks ago but the selectors did not forget their past achievements when naming the six-man squad for the Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, event.
The selectors have called the pair into a race against Chui at Tai Mei Tuk tomorrow morning to fill the two remaining places in the squad.
Heading the team is Con O'Kelly, the undisputed local number one with Ian Rayson still sidelined by a mysterious virus he contacted at the Singapore triathlon last October.
Also selected for Kota Kinabalu are Mike Ward, Wan Shu-wah and versatile sportsman Harvey Davis, a professional footballer with Kitchee two seasons ago and now captain of the Kowloon Cricket Club's Templers team.
Three teenagers - Adam Smith, Winky Li Shu-lam and Kevin Lam Ka-kin - will also be competing for one remaining place in the junior squad.
