HONG Kong is a commercial and industrial centre, so transportation is very important.

With the increase in the number of vehicles, cars and pedestrians are scrambling for a share of our roads and streets.

Take for example, the junction of Tsz Wan Shan Road and Po Kong Village Road, outside my school. During the lunch-hour many students want to cross the road to buy lunch.

There are traffic lights, but they only control the flow of vehicles at the junction. There is no pedestrian crossing.

Once, I saw a student trying to cross who was almost knocked over. I felt sure the lights were red at the time.

In spite of the increase in vehicle numbers, the Government must not lose sight of the importance of pedestrian safety. There should be a pedestrian crossing at this junction.
