DOUBLES specialist Ma Chi-kong and newcomer Ma Chi-wai captured the men's badminton doubles title yesterday to keep Hong Kong's colours flying high at the Arafura Games in Darwin, Australia.
The unrelated Mas defeated Filipinos Naresh Ramnani and John Campos 15-9, 15-0 for the territory's only badminton title although Hong Kong players finished in the medals in all five events.
Ma Chi-kong earned a silver in the singles competition after going down to Brunei's Aknoor Ramuzi in the title match while teammate Wong Kwok-wai won a bronze for making the semi-finals.
Hong Kong collected two bronze medals in the mixed doubles event when both Ma Chi-kong and Koon Wai-chee and Wong and Chan Mei-mei bowed out in the semi-final round.
Koon and Chan were also losing semi-finalists in the women's singles event and they teamed up to reach the doubles final before going down 15-5, 15-7 to Filipinas Amparo Lim and Kennie Asuncion.
Yeung Ching and her Filipina partner Alma Lepasma also made the women's doubles semi-final to bring Hong Kong's badminton medal tally at the meeting to nine - one gold, two silvers and six bronzes.
