The expansion would include Korea and Thailand.

'This is not a firm figure as we have not finalised our plans,' Mr Chan said after the company's annual general meeting yesterday.

He said the expansion was expected to take place in the second half of this year through joint ventures with local partners.

The Hong Kong-listed firm, which has 700 stores in the Asia-Pacific region with annual sales of $350 million, will initially open 10 stores in major cities such as Bombay and New Delhi.

'India has potential target customers of 200 million, which is way ahead of China,' Mr Chan said.
