LEADING court reporting software LiveNote from Smith Bernal, made further in-roads in the territory when it was used recently for the first real-time remote feed from a court room to a law firm in Hong Kong.
LiveNote, which currently has a new version in beta testing and nearing release, was used by solicitors at Denton Hall to maintain near instantaneous contact with proceedings in court.
Smith Bernal says this type of modem link saves solicitors' time, and clients' money, by allowing lawyers to only be present in court when it is needed.
The LiveNote system has been used in several high-profile international court cases recently including the Maxwell trial in London and the O. J. Simpson case in Los Angeles.
In the Simpson case, LiveNote was used not only for in-court recording and reference but for media coverage as well.
LiveNote acts as a translator, translating the up to 250 words per minute input by court stenographers into on-screen English transcripts for use in court by counsel as well as by the judge. The modem link was added to provide remote access to the same information.
