PANTONE, best known for its system of colour matching, has released a new six-colour process colour system which the company says will revolutionise high-end printing.
Called Hexachrome, it is a six-colour process colour printing system which can reproduce 90 per cent of the Pantone spot colours using process colour. This is achieved by adding orange and green to the suite of process colours.
The company dominates the entire printing process, from desktop publishing and design software all the way to the printing press.
The Hexachrome system promises to eliminate the need to combine four-colour process print jobs with additional spot colour plates and will not press common six-colour presses beyond their limitations.
Many competing high-fidelity colour systems rely on seven process colours which limit the number of presses they can be used on.
Pantone has also enhanced the purity of the inks used in the Hexachrome system so that even traditional four-colour jobs are improved by using Hexachrome inks.
